In the library today I found what I hope will be an interesting read. Its a slim volume by Anne Perry called "A Christmas Guest". Is a whodunit. A Christmas mystery! Its set in Victorian times, which is a bonus.

I found another Anne Perry book called "The Christmas Visitor". Both this and "The Christmas Guest" were good whodunits. Not too much on the Christmas part of it other than mentions here and there about food and decorations. Still, both good reads and I can recommend them. ::cheers::

I listened to this on my commute from work. I enjoyed it. It contained interesting twists to the beginnings of some of our Christmas traditions.

I've also read Unplug The Christmas Machine subtitled How to Have the Christmas You've Always Wanted by Jo Robinson and Jean Coppock Staeheli. They gave tips to taking the stress out of the Christmas season and making it more enjoyable. The book came out of workshops of the same name the authors did for many organizations in the Pacific Northwest. I've had people tell me I should give this workshop around the midwest where I live.

Earlier this year I went by a yard sale where a lady was selling nothing but books. And most hadn't even been read so I felt like I hit a great bargain. I bought a huge bag full, shoved them in my closet and forgot about them until just now so I decided to go thru them and put them up. I found two Christmas books in the stack so I think I'll start some Christmas reading soon.

One is called Forever Christmas, set in fictional town Jingle Bells, Arkansas. Its about a girl from Jingle Bells who grows up to inherit her grandmother's Christmas store, named Forever Christmas.

But a corporate bigwig wants to come in and rename the town Summer Valley to entice a big corporation to relocate there. So she decides to take him on and save her town.

The other is called a Big Apple Christmas and its actually 4 novellas about 4 separate couples that meet and fall in love in New York over the holiday season.

One of my favourite books is The Night Before the Night Before Christmas by Natasha Wing. It's a great story about the hecticness of the holidays using the same rhyming scheme as the Clement Moore poem. Here's an exerpt:

'Twas the night before the night before Christmas,
with too much to do.
Our tree wasn't up yet,
and Mom had the flu.

Our cookies were burned.
There were presents to wrap.
Mom sniffled, "What I need is a long winter's nap."

I love Anne Perry and her Victorian mysteries. Better than Agatha Christie.

Today I finished listening to the book The Fat Man: a Tale of North Pole Noir by Ken Harmon. You will love this book. It's funny and has so many allusions to well-known Christmas stories, songs, movies, etc. Disgraced elf, Gumdrop Coal, works to clear his name and save Christmas.
